Warp’, designed by Josine, inspired by an Ashwood armchair, used by president Paul Kruger.
‘How do you translate a partly woven, partly solid wooden chair into a balanced rug design? I played with the composition and contrasts in texture. The Ashwood armchair, used by president Paul Kruger, has a woven backrest with an open and refined character. The seat is woven more densely while the armrests and seat legs have a more solid and smooth surface. I translated the changes in density and texture into rather strong and graphic shapes. Applying different techniques highlights the handmade aspect of our product, just like the armchair.’
